In a previous article we discussed about The Ericsson Method. Today we’ll discuss another method very well known, which proved to have very good results, if followed accordingly. Many couples, especially those who are looking forward to a first child, will want to have a boy. Nature has decreed that there will be a 50/50 chance of having a boy under normal circumstances. For those who want to increase their chances of having a boy, the Shettles Method might offer some help. The authors, Landrum Shettles and David Rorvik state that by using their method, a couple can achieve a 75% to 90% success rate.
The Shettles Method
For the Shettles Method to work, the mother-to-be must practice Basal Body Temperature (BBT) procedures to chart her ovulation cycle. BBT measures the lowest bodily temperature of the woman and is taken in the morning. It should always be taken at the same time and recorded on a chart. To help ensure that a boy is conceived, the couple should have intercourse just before the BBT starts to rise, when the temperature lowers slightly.
Another important factor is that the couple must refrain from sexual activity about 4 to 5 days before the woman will ovulate. This will allow the man’s sperm supply to build up. A high sperm count will help to conceive a boy.
The man’s body temperature is just as important as the woman’s when trying to conceive a boy. As sperm survive best in an environment slightly cooler than body temperature, the man should not do anything to raise his body temperature. Hot baths and bicycle riding are to be avoided, and clothing should be looser, not tight. Higher body temperature will neutralize both y and x sperm, but the male y is more likely to be affected before the female y.
As a higher sperm count will favor the conception of a boy, the father should make sure that he exercises regularly and keep a proper body weight, neither fat nor too thin. Worrying about the sex of your child can be very stressful, but stress can also adversely affect sperm count, so the couple should endeavor to relax as much as possible. So many hazards are connected to drug use, smoking, and alcohol consumption that it should come as no surprise that these things can also lower the man’s sperm count.
The Shettles Method also advocates an alkaline vaginal condition. Although a woman should resort to an alkaline douche only if her vagina is acidic, it is also thought to be beneficial for the woman to experience an orgasm during intercourse. This also helps to make the vagina more alkaline
Following the Shettles Method will not absolutely guarantee that you will conceive a boy, it just makes it a better possibility. Remember too, that regardless of what sex child you bring into the world, it is an unique, individual little human that will be wholly dependent on you. All the love you give the child will be returned to you a hundred fold.
